3) Support the Little Manila Foundation
---------------------------------------------------------------------
From Dawn Mabalon:
“Dear Community Members,
We at the Little Manila Foundation thank you for all of your support in our campaign to prevent demolitions and displacement in Stockton, California’s Little Manila Historic Site, one of the nation’s last historic Filipino American ethnic neighborhoods, and once home to the largest community of Filipinos outside of the Philippines. Thousands of you have responded with donations, emails, letters of support, and attendance at city council meetings, fundraisers, and community forums. This past May, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named the remaining buildings in the Little Manila Historic Site to its annual list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. We request your assistance again in a crucial juncture in our campaign to save Little Manila/Chinatown/Gleason Park from a proposed mall development. The city has given all parties until October 3 to come up with a development proposal for the Little Manila/Chinatown/Gleason Park area.
As the deadline for proposals for the area looms on October 3, 2003, we would greatly appreciate letters of support for our proposal. These letters may be written
from individuals as well as from community groups, nonprofits, and academic departments. We hope these letters can influence city officials to support our innovative proposal. Attached is a draft letter of support. When we asked for your support to designate the Little Manila Historic Site in 2000, more than 500 of you responded with letters and emails. Please help us again and spread the word to your family members, colleagues, and community leaders. Please send your letters addressed, emailed or faxed to the Little Manila Foundation:
Little Manila Foundation
P.O. Box 1356
Stockton, CA 95201
FAX your letters to (209) 477-7143
email them to info@littlemanila.net.
Ideally, letters should reach us by Monday, September 22 for inclusion in the proposal, but you can continue to send letters after that date.”
“FOR MORE INFO: For more information on the Foundation and a history of our struggle for Little Manila area, please visit our website, http://www.littlemanila.net, email us at info@littlemanila.net, and call/fax us at (209) 477-7143. A draft letter is also on the website, in case you have difficulty opening the word document attached.”

We were so honored to have him visit, and had a great time walking with him around the historic Little Manila/Chinatown neighborhood and the Barrio Fiesta!
